The morning rush hour from the north of Antwerp is particularly difficult on Wednesday, after a rear-end collision between two trucks on the Antwerp ring road towards Ghent. The accident happened at the Merksem viaduct.

“One of the two drivers was trapped for a while and had to be freed from the vehicle. In the meantime, both have gone to the hospital for a check-up, but one of the two drivers has closed the cabin, which is currently making the towing difficult.”

Due to the collision, one lane was initially open, but now there are two. “But the result remains the same: on the E19 from the Netherlands you have been queuing between Brecht and Sint-Job for two hours. There is also slow traffic on the A12 from Stabroek.”

It is not clear how long the traffic jam will last.

Anyone traveling from the A12 to Bruges or Ghent is recommended to drive at the Antwerp-Haven junction via the R2 to the E34 and E17.

From the E19 you can drive towards the A12 via the Antwerp-Noord junction and then continue the same route.
