OH Leuven spoiled its supporters on Sunday afternoon with a 3-1 home win against Standard, even though there was nothing left at stake. The denouement of the Promotion Play-Offs in the Challenger Pro League remains extremely exciting. The first match between Lommel SK and KMSK ended 1-1.

Promotion Play-Offs

Beerschot and Dender are now certain of promotion, but there is still one ticket left for the Jupiler Pro League. This is currently being fought for in the Promotion Play-Offs. The winner will play the jump-offs against the number two from the Relegation Play-Offs. Earlier this week, Lommel and Deinze managed to qualify for the final of this play-off competition.

Both teams played the first leg in Limburg on Sunday. And it was the home team that was able to strike first. After a great attack, Vancsa made it 1-0 at the start of the second half. Lommel therefore seemed to be on its way to a welcome bonus for the first match. But via Braken it became 1-1 again fifteen minutes before the end.

That turned out to be the final score. And so this confrontation could go in any direction. The return match will be played against Deinze next Sunday. By then, the winner will already know which team it will play against in the jump-offs: RWDM, KV Kortrijk or KAS Eupen.

Europe Play-Offs

AA Gent also mathematically secured the final victory in the second play-off on Saturday. And so there is basically nothing at stake in the remaining duels. Although several players still want to show themselves with a view to next season or a possible transfer. And of course the teams want to give their supporters a great end to the season.

The Standard players don’t seem to have understood that too well. For example, the Rouches appeared particularly weak on the field of OH Leuven. Despite this, they were still able to take the lead. Yeboah makes it 0-1 out of nowhere just before half time. However, in the second period OHL received pay for work.

The plates were quickly brought back into balance via Maziz. And Nsinghi then managed to make it 2-1. In the end, Dom’s 3-1 was disallowed, but Thorsteinsson scored in a regular manner not much later. This victory puts OHL four points ahead of Standard in the rankings, although no one really seems to care about that anymore.
