Former RSC Anderlecht manager Herman Van Holsbeeck will soon have to appear in criminal court. He is accused of various things, but the essence is that he allegedly tampered with the sale of the football club to Marc Coucke in 2017.

Ex-CEO Jo Van Biesbroeck and broker Christophe Henrotay must also answer for tampering before the criminal court. Ex-chairman Roger Vanden Stock, ex-club lawyer Luc Deleu and the law firms Clifford Chance and Van Landuyt en Vennoten have been acquitted.

Criminal lawyer Bram Elyn does not know the details of the case, but does explain why Van Holsbeeck may not receive more than a prison sentence of five years. “In such cases, Article 65 will probably be applied. This means that – despite the different charges – there is the same criminal intent. As a result, only one punishment will be applied, namely the most severe. And in this case that is forgery, with a maximum sentence of five years in prison. Unless there are aggravating circumstances; but to know that, I would of course have to know the entire file.”
