Marc De Vleeschauwer (72) died on Sunday during a ride with the C team of WTC De Vlaamse Ardennen. In Vloesberg he became unwell while cycling and fell. He died in Ronse hospital.

“I was sitting in the support car of the B team on Sunday when I received a phone call from someone from the C team around 9.40 am,” says chairman Bart Roos of WTC Flemish Ardennes. “Marc had fallen and the situation did not look good.”

“Since I was in Velzeke myself, I urgently recommended informing the emergency services. During a second telephone contact I learned that a club member and a local resident had started resuscitation. I also heard the sirens of the emergency services who subsequently took over the resuscitation. Unfortunately, Marc died in Ronse hospital. I have been with the club for 17 years and have always known Marc as a member.”

OKRA and senior council

Marc De Vleeschauwer was also a board member of OKRA Sport Brakel-Lierde and of the general Brakel senior council. He was responsible for planning and guiding cycling and walking tours for these two associations. The news also hit those associations hard.

“Marc was a board member of OKRA Sport Brakel-Lierde and of the general meeting of the Brakel senior council,” says OKRA chairman and chairman of the senior council Eric Van Steenberge. “Marc planned cycling and walking tours for us and guided them.” De Vleeschauwer also completed training to become an authorized supervisor with the senior council.

Marc De Vleeschauwer leaves behind a wife, son, daughter and four grandchildren. To say goodbye, a solemn funeral liturgy will be organized on Friday, April 5 at 11:15 a.m. in the St. Peter-in-de-Bandenkerk in Nederbrakel. The funeral letter can be read via Stefaan Funeral Guidance. (Eric De Pessemier)
