It took a while, but Apple has finally announced its first keynote of 2024. The theme: ‘Let Loose’. The date and time: Tuesday, May 7 at 4:00 PM Dutch time. As usual, you can watch the event from home, with a special livestream from Apple.

We can guess which products will be announced during the event. Rumors have been talking about the arrival of two new iPads for months: the iPad Air 2024 and iPad Pro 2024. This will immediately include some new accessories. For example, the Pro gets a brand new Magic Keyboard, but there is also talk of an Apple Pencil 3 – even the keynote invitation depicts a stylus.

So expectations for the event are high, but perhaps more announcements are coming. We have listed some candidates for this. These are possible surprises for the Apple event of May 2024!

This year it’s not just the iPads that are in the spotlight, the same goes for the AirPods. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman writes that there will be two new versions of the ‘regular’ model this year. This would be a set with active noise cancellation – a feature that is included in the ‘standard’ AirPods for the first time – and one without. Apple fans therefore have more choice when it comes to their preferences.

The event in May is an excellent opportunity to unveil the AirPods 4. First off: Apple usually announces their new AirPods in the spring. Secondly, the AirPods 2 – which are also still being sold – are already five years old. High time for an upgrade!

Not only Apple’s earphones, but also its headphones need an upgrade. The AirPods Max have not yet received any successor: Apple is still selling the first model from December 2020. As a result, it is stuck with an H1 chip and a Lightning connection, while for that price tag it really deserves a newer processor and USB-C . Let alone support for Lossless audio.

It has to happen this year: according to rumors, the AirPods Max 2 will be released in 2024. The question, however, is when. Reportedly, we can’t expect the headphones until the fall of this year, but who knows, maybe you can order them in May.

What’s better than a HomePod? A HomePod with a display! At least, that’s what Apple thinks, because the company has reportedly been working on this for some time. With a screen you could use the speaker as a hub for your smart home products. For example, to view live images and recordings from a security camera, or to control other smart devices. All this without having to rely on Siri.

Apple leakers have not yet announced anything about the release of the new HomePod, but the invitation to the event reveals a few things. In the animated version that https://twitter.com/tim_cook/status/1782785458881302714 (former Twitter) posted, there is an Apple logo that consists of musical notes. That theme fits perfectly with a speaker like the HomePod – although the same applies to the AirPods.

The entire iPad lineup hasn’t had an upgrade in some time. The latest model is still the iPad 2022, which was announced in October of that year. 2023 was therefore the first year since the release of Apple’s tablet in which no new versions were released.

2024 should change that. According to many Apple leakers, Apple will start with a new iPad Air and iPad Pro, which will be announced during the event in May. The next iPad mini and ‘regular’ iPad will appear later this year, according to them. But who knows, maybe Apple wants to make up for the iPad drought of the last few years by unveiling all the models at once. That chance is small, but in that case not two, but four models will arrive next week.

Whatever announcements Apple makes: the first Apple event of the year is already special.
