A Russian man who went to report this weekend to the police in Moscow because he had been robbed and beaten up will regret his trip to the police station. He himself is now being prosecuted because his hair is dyed blue and yellow, the colors of Ukraine.

Stanislav Netessov had gone to a police station in central Moscow on Sunday after being attacked, beaten and robbed of his phone the day before. This was reported by the NGO ‘OVD-info’, which specializes in monitoring Kremlin critics. The young man is said to have lost a piece of tooth during the violent robbery. It happened at a bus stop, on the way home from work.

Russian army “discredited”

The police promptly decided not to file a report against his attackers, but against the man himself. “Believing that Netessov’s hairstyle symbolizes Ukraine and discredits the Russian military, the police prepared a report against him,” explains ‘OVD-Info’.

In a photo shared online, the young man from Moscow can be seen with blue, yellow and also green patches of color in his hair.

Convocation letter

Netessov now risks a fine for allegedly denigrating the Russian army with his colorful hair. In addition, the police also issued him a letter of convocation for the army. The Russian agents reportedly added that they would force the young man to “kiss his native country in the trenches.”

The story revisits how Russia has cracked down on critics of the Kremlin and those critical of the war in Ukraine since the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Russia has already punished thousands of people who are or would be critical of the war. Even when it comes to hair colors, the Russians seem to be going into a frenzy.

“Hostile symbol”

The Russian newspaper ‘Novaya Gazeta Europe’, which has emigrated to Latvia, recently reported that a woman in Vologda was visited at her home by the police because of an “enemy symbol” in a photo she posted on social media. In the photo, the woman posed in a yellow jacket with a blue sea and sky as a background.
