Tour of the Basque Country

14:11 Irun – 17:32 Irun

Primoz Roglic has taken his first victory for his new employer Bora-Hansgrohe. Roglic was the strongest in the short opening time trial of the Tour of the Basque Country. The Slovenian was faster than Jay Vine, Mattias Skjelmose, Remco Evenepoel and Jonas Vingegaard. World champion Evenepoel squandered his chances of winning the day after a fall at the beginning. Roglic in turn lost seconds by taking the exit from the support cars in the last bend.

The 63rd edition of the Tour of the Basque Country started with a 10 kilometer time trial. Due to the threat of rain in the late afternoon, the teams chose to let the top players start early.

Remco Evenepoel wanted to make his rainbow jersey shine in Spain, but it went wrong. After a few hundred meters he slid into a bend.
