Mathieu van der Poel shows no understanding for what happens to Remco Evenepoel: “Shameless”

On social media, men like Mathieu van der Poel and Remco Evenepoel receive a lot of messages and reactions, but they don’t pay much attention to them.

“I stay far away from responding to people who post comments about me,” says Mathieu van der Poel in Titanen. “Because then you end up in an endless street. One of my favorite quotes is “Winning an argument with someone who is smart is difficult, but winning an argument with someone who is stupid is impossible.”

According to Mathieu van der Poel, it is impossible to win a discussion on social media. He often talks about it during training with Remco Evenepoel. Evenepoel is faced with much more than the world champion.

Strong head

“He is often in the eye of the storm on social media these days. Then they say, for example, that he always has an excuse when he doesn’t win. The same people who criticize him then shamelessly praise him again when he wins a top race.”

But the two do not allow themselves to be ensnared by toxic reactions. “You have to have a strong head to deal with that. Remco has that. And so do I,” the Dutchman concludes.
