A Walloon real estate agent is selling his own castle and doing so in a special way. He is organizing a lottery and a ticket costs only 10 euros.

Have you always wanted to live in a castle on the banks of the Maas? A little bit of real estate knowledge and a portion of luck could help. Real estate agent Valere Duchenne is launching a very special competition. He and his wife own the castle Le Richmond in Godinne, Wallonia. The castle was built in 1710, has 900 square meters of habitable space and 67 ares of land. And Duchenne and his wife are selling the exceptional property. And they do so in a striking way. The castle is not actually for sale. You can win it, though.

“I have been a real estate agent for 35 years and have owned the building for 27 years. I completely restored it in 12 years. It was our family home for about fifteen years. I’ve had the idea to do this for a long time. It took me almost a year to put the project together,” he says. The luxury property will be part of a lottery.

Anyone who is interested must buy a ticket for 10 euros. Then you have to answer two questions. “The purpose is to provide an estimate of the value of the lot, including the main house and guesthouse. The one who comes closest, to the nearest hundred, wins the match. “ (Read more below the photo)

Duchenne himself does not know the exact value of the plot. “An expert will provide an estimate of the value of the property which he will seal with a bailiff. Another will do the same for the guesthouse and he will hand it over to the notary. We will discover the value at the end of the competition which will last three months. “

“It is true that it is not always easy to sell these types of properties. We have to work internationally, with French, English and sometimes Dutch. The market is very specific, it can take years to find a buyer,” says Duchenne. He therefore hopes to generate enough interest in this way and sell enough tickets that should ultimately ensure that the entire project is not loss-making. If too few tickets are sold, Duchenne can still withdraw from the sale.
