RSC Anderlecht lost to KRC Genk last weekend. After the match, Brian Riemer criticized the penalty kick that the Purple & White conceded.

Brian Riemer opened his press conference with a reference to what happened after the match against KRC Genk. “I may have been a bit emotional after the match at Genk, but emotions are part of football. Especially if you lose an important point in the last minute of the match,” he tells Het Laatste Nieuws.

Riemer received a warning from the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office for his swipe at Jonathan Lardot. “It was certainly not my intention to be disrespectful. Sometimes we just see it differently and it’s a good thing that we don’t always agree. I don’t want to say more about it.”

Decisive phase

RSC Anderlecht will play against Cercle Brugge twice this week. “This could be an important week for us. We are entering the decisive phase of the competition. We are not going to suddenly change everything because we lost at Genk. If we were in an airplane, we would gradually prepare for landing. You have to sit quietly with your seat belt on and above all don’t do anything crazy.”

Some guys are getting pretty tough right now. The focus is mainly on Théo Leoni and Mario Stroeykens. “The bar is just higher for those guys. Before the season, few people would have bet money on being so important to the team. This is a learning process for them. It is up to the more experienced players to get them through the difficult moments, including in the play-offs.”
