Antwerp

Every weekday our reporter and photographer pick a random passerby from the street for a nice conversation. Because everyone has a story. And certainly in Antwerp. Today: Geert Van den Abeele (46).

“A few years ago I quit as a teacher after a burnout. I wanted to pick up the thread again by doing volunteer work with children, but felt that I had to take a completely different approach. Since then I have been working as a volunteer at the Arenberg Theater and the OLT. I’m already looking forward to attending concerts this summer.”

“I have found a lot of peace in the Arenberg and therefore like to pass that peace on to others. During the week, when there are no performances, the doors of the theater are open as a rest area. People can come and work there, read a book in silence and enjoy a cheap cup of coffee.”

“With the first tips I received from a director, I am also rewriting my series. It is about two childhood friends who meet again at a school reunion. They make a pact to get as much media attention as possible in a month. To do this, they suffer in a white lie. But they keep coming up with new lies to maintain the previous one.”
