Short chain week: May 18 – May 26

During the Short Chain Week from 18 to 26 May 2024, how could it be otherwise, the short chain will be put in the spotlight. Short chain is a way of selling where there is a direct link between producer and consumer. In this way, the farmer can determine his own price, production method and supply. With such a transparent system, he is not only an ambassador for his product but for the entire short chain. As a consumer, you receive fresh and quality products straight from the farmer in return. Without many food miles or packaging waste. And you also support the local economy.

Various organizations and producers welcome you to their activities where they put local products straight from the farmer in the spotlight. Various events are also on the agenda in the province of East Flanders. We highlight two of them. You can consult the others on the website.

Picking walk and spring cooking workshop at organic farm ‘t Uilenbos in Moerbeke-Waas

On Saturday, May 18 at 3 p.m. you can go on a “wild” picking walk with organic farmer Mich. Attention is paid to what can be harvested in the fields and in the greenhouses, but you can also discover what edibles grow in the wild borders and flower strips.
The cooking workshop starts at 4 p.m.: you will learn to prepare some Asian-inspired dishes with the fresh harvest. From 6 p.m. an inviting buffet will be put together with all plates and you can join us at the table.

Cost: €35/adult, €8/child

Touring and lurking with 3 self-harvest farmers

Three picking farms, Bes en Bloem in Lokeren, ‘t Groenselveld and Rawijs in Lochristi, join forces on Pentecost Monday, May 20, for a beautiful and inspiring bike ride past their companies.

Harvesting your own vegetables, herbs, berries and flowers is becoming increasingly popular. Because the three farms all work with CSA self-harvest, there is a lot in common. Yet each place has its own accents and each place has its own charms. The bike tour offers you the opportunity to see with your own eyes how they work.

You can stop at each farm for a tour with a drink. There is a guided tour at 10am, 2pm and 4pm.

Participation is free, but registration is required via the form on the website.
