Visitors to the Art Rotterdam art fair were surprised on Saturday by a very special work. In the center of the room, a woman sat for several minutes with bare, spread legs.

“Is this art?” The reactions on social media to the performance of dancer Noemi Calzavara are not lying. The ‘act’ came completely unannounced at the Rotterdam art fair Art Rotterdam, because it was feared that it could not have taken place. Flor Linckens of Art Rotterdam tells De Telegraaf: “We have not heard of it, but it is often the case that artists do something playful in the corridors to draw attention to something. That is part of it.”
The intent of the action was to denounce the gossip of society. And that gossip was clearly much discussed. “Enjoying all the comments today,” anthropologist Danielle Braun said on Twitter. “Everything will pass. disgust. blasé. Admiration. Shifting focus to tables and abs. I think art that provokes so much reaction is successful.”
