The chiro girls and boys of Zwijndrecht work together every two years to organize the Blossom Festival. The mini festival should make it cheaper for members to go to camp. “Our two tents are a bit bigger compared to the previous edition, so we hope for a record edition.”

The Blossom Festival has a legendary status in Zwijndrecht. The festive weekend is only organized every two years, but is already in its 26th edition. It is the chiro girls and boys who keep this event running to finance their operations.

Two years ago, the festivities moved to the Stenenkruisstraat, says chairman of the Bloesemfeesten Siene Van Goethem: “Our edition in April 2020 was forced to cancel due to the corona crisis, so we looked for a new date later in the year. But new grass had just been sown on the football field where we were then, so we started looking for another field. As we all remember, the event was canceled even then, but we did already have a new square for the Blossom Festival. That went well two years ago, so we’re doing it again here.”

Cheese and wine evening

Although the capacity will be increased for this edition. “We expect between 6,000 and 7,000 visitors over the entire weekend,” says Siene. “There are two tents: the cozy bodega tent for the afterwork and the cheese and wine evening and the large party tent where parties are held on Friday and Saturday. Both tents have even become slightly larger compared to the previous edition, so we can receive even more people and hope for a record edition.”

The more people, the more joy and the less the members of both Chiros have to pay for their summer camp. “We use the proceeds to finance a large part of the camp, but also the annual operation,” says Siene. “The fact that we can count on 263 volunteers also helps.”

An afterwork is provided by the Bloesemfeesten on Thursday evening, April 25. On Friday, Sam Gooris will pull his basketball shoes who shares the bill with, among others, Stubru presenter Flo Windey and the Kruibeek DJ collective Fly & Solo. The latter will also perform on Saturday, together with the live band Les Truttes and DJ FRANK. The online presale is already sold out, but tickets are still available at the box office.
