If you suffer from hay fever, you are probably sneezing and blowing your nose all day long. Result? An irritated, dry and red nose. We tell you what you can do about it.

The most common symptoms of hay fever are: itchy nose, sneezing and a runny or stuffy nose. The result: you have to blow your nose very often and rub your nose all day long. Your nose is red, feels rough like sandpaper and your skin is irritated and dry.

What can you do about it?

Apply a generous layer of restorative cream in the evening before going to sleep. Creams like Cicaplast B5 from La Roche-Posay (€ 12.75 – shop here), Bepanthen Derma Crème (€ 15.75 – shop here) and good old Vaseline (€3.58 – shop here) are ideal for soothing your skin, reducing irritation and repairing your skin barrier. The next morning your skin will feel calmer and softer.

To protect your skin preventively, you can apply a cream during the day that protects your skin barrier, for example Bariéderm Insulating Repairing Cream from Uriage (€ 10.06 – shop here). This places a thin protective layer over your skin, making it more resistant to friction and therefore less likely to become irritated.

Some more tips

  • Use soft, perfume-free tissues
  • Try to pat your runny nose dry as much as possible and rub as gently as possible.
  • Use mild care products without perfume or alcohol.
  • It is better not to exfoliate or scrub the skin around your nose at this time.
  • Continue to apply preventive measures during the allergy season to reduce the risk of irritation.
