Beginning of end Standard? “Future far from rosy”

Standard is having a very mediocre season. The Rouches already had a difficult time in the regular competition and did not make any progress in the Conference League Play-offs. Will the future bring better things for the people of Liège?

Standard is still chasing its first win in the play-offs. It has already drawn five times and lost once. As a result, it has slipped to the penultimate place, with five points more than bottom KVC Westerlo. It seems clear that something needs to change on the banks of the Meuse.

Albert is pessimistic about Standard

Standard was discussed extensively in the French-language programme LaTribune, where ex-Red Devil Philippe Albert, among others, had his say. “The future looks far from bright for Standard,” it sounded ominously. “It is a very difficult situation for everyone. We need this club. The only solution is financial, but the money is not there.”

Journalist Swann Borsellino agreed. “It is a big club, but that does not mean that you are protected against everything. There comes a time when you cannot move forward without resources. You need money to arrange a minimum of things.”

Transfer summer

Standard is undoubtedly now focusing everything on next season. Things should improve at Sclessin, but without financial resources they will face a difficult transfer summer in Liège. And the core needs to be strengthened, as the current poor season made more than clear.

We now have to wait and see what the next move is from 777 Partners, the unpopular owners of Standard. Will they come up with more money or will they let the club continue to struggle?
