The top match between Club Brugge and Union SG is on the agenda tonight. There is a lot at stake for both teams.

On Thursday, Union SG won the Croky Cup, meaning that today the people of Brussels can go to the Jan Breydel Stadium with a broad smile on their faces to face Club Brugge in the play-offs.

“The evening of the cup final and the day after you are tired, but you still walk around with a smile on your face,” says Alexander Blessin to Het Nieuwsblad. “Everywhere you go you are laughing. That gives a good feeling.”

The players were given a day off on Friday and trained again on Saturday. “There was also a lot of laughter on Saturday. But from Sunday we focused again on our next objective. We’ve obviously made history and it gives us a boost, but we still have something to play for in the league.”

One goal conceded in four games

However, Union SG cannot afford a defeat tonight, but Blessin does not think his team is under pressure. According to him, even the win in the cup final against Royal Antwerp FC has nothing to do with that.

“Before the play-offs the pressure was on us, now the pressure is on Club Brugge. They currently have the best chance of winning the title. I don’t know if Skov Olsen will be able to play, but their attack is just very strong. Now, we have only conceded one goal in the last four matches. We have found defensive stability again and we can always create something offensively.”
