Reading is perhaps the most important thing a child learns at school. Because those who have learned to read well can participate better in our society than those who have difficulty reading.

Your child learns to read at school, and you can help your child with this at home. The Library can support this.

Which book is fun for my child?

Are you looking for a nice book for your child, but you don’t know how to choose a nice book? Library staff are happy to help you with this. Together you will look for the right book.

Would you rather look around online? You can find books by subject on the Library’s website. From funny books to cool books and from horror books to books about sports or travel. Maybe this way you can find the right book for your child.

Isn’t a book too difficult?

Of course, you don’t want a book to be too difficult for your child. Checking whether a book is not too difficult is very easy. You can quickly discover this with the 5-finger test. It works like this:

Choose a book together with your child. Have your child read a page. He raises a finger for every difficult word. If you have less than 5 fingers after the entire page, then the book is probably suitable. If you raised five fingers or more, the book is probably too difficult.

Practice at home for the subjects at school

Do you want to practice the subjects at school with your child at home? With the Library’s Junior Einstein online program you can practice language, spelling, arithmetic, tables, topo, traffic and more. If you are a member of the Library you can use this program for free.

No time to come to the library?

Do you have little time to come to the Library, or are you on holiday and are you out of books? Then take a look at the online Library. There you will find fun e-books and audiobooks for every age.

Free membership and penalty free

Children up to the age of 18 are members of the Library for free.

And did you know that the Library is fine-free. So you don’t have to worry about returning the books too late, you don’t pay any late fees. If the return deadline has expired, the Library will send you a reminder.
