Mayor of Schaerbeek files a complaint against citizen who called her a “dirty whore” (Domestic)

The mayor of the Brussels municipality of Schaarbeek Cécile Jodogne (DéFI) files a complaint against citizens who verbally abused her during a noisy municipal meeting on Wednesday evening. A citizen shouted at the mayor from the visitors’ stand that she was a “sale pute”, French for ‘dirty whore’. Later during the hearing, a fellow citizen stated that she was not “beautiful, young and efficient” enough for this, the mayor’s office said.

“We immediately condemned the behavior of the citizens. It is about a small group that keeps causing a commotion,” said the Jodogne cabinet. “It is important that the municipal council debates are transparent, so the mayor has decided to continue the session. On Thursday we decided to file a complaint.”

The situation occurred during an important city council meeting where the council had to vote on the municipality’s budget. Ultimately, that vote could not take place as the PS faction decided to leave the municipal council and the necessary quorum was no longer achieved.

The Schaerbeek council no longer has a majority, which means that before the start of each session it is discussed which points are or are not up for vote. In a preparatory meeting, the PS reportedly said that it would abstain from voting on the three-year budget. “They did not keep their word and left the room. As a result, only citizen interpellations could take place. That is incomprehensible, because it was agreed in advance,” he said.

According to the mayor, the PS also endangers the proper functioning of the municipality. Without the budget vote in the municipality, Schaerbeek cannot claim additional monetary support from the region, “good for 12 million euros”, it sounds.
