Despite Louis Hazard’s injury, the final match of Basket Brussels in Elite Silver and the BNXT League was a more than pleasant match. After a 38-40 score halfway through, regular playing time ended with an 81-81 score. Extra time was called for and in overtime, Basket Brussels, playing with great passion, kept the win in Neder-over-Heembeek: 93-90.

After the match, Alex Libert addressed the ardent Brussels fans. “We thank you for the warm support. Unfortunately, we were not able to achieve our ambition of reaching the play-offs. Our start in the Domestic League was sparkling, but in Elite Silver we were unable to push further due to injuries, among other things. We just missed the second round, but will try again next season.”

Progress

The club from the capital recorded a 10 out of 20 in the Belgian Domestic League, and a 7 out of 12 in the Elite Silver. Good for 17 out of 32 in total. “The 2023-24 campaign is over. Compared to previous years, we are taking a step forward,” Serge Crevecoeur remains positive. “The icing on the cake was missing, but the foundation has been laid. Now we will evaluate everything with the sporting staff and the board. I can already tell you that we will come back stronger.”

The experienced trio Alex Libert, Louis Hazard and Yannick Desiron, among others, are still under contract for next season. Basket Brussels will start preparing for the new season at the beginning of August. The BNXT League starts on the weekend of September 13. And that in a new format: one round of matches with back and forth matches with the nine Dutch teams from the start. Elite Silver and Elite Gold will be abolished in the new competition format.
