The woman called the emergency services herself on Monday evening around 11 p.m. and asked to send an ambulance to the apartment building in Prins Leopoldstraat in Burcht. Dimitri Van Den Borre (36) had been living there for several weeks in one of the apartments: a man from West Flanders, who had recently been placed there by the OCMW. The man had lived on the street for a period.

“He had only lived here for about a month,” his neighbors say. They also often saw the 24-year-old blonde woman from Ostend there. “She was a friendly girl and she always said hello,” says downstairs neighbor Josefa. “On Monday evening around 10 p.m. I heard a lot of shouting and screaming coming from the apartment and half an hour later the police were here. We didn’t know what happened, but we knew it wasn’t right.”

The man was allegedly stabbed in the chest with a knife by his partner. Emergency services tried to revive him, but he died on the spot from his injuries.

The woman was arrested on Tuesday evening by the investigating judge on suspicion of manslaughter, the Antwerp public prosecutor’s office confirmed. (pvh, jro, cell)
