In Mol-Gompel, some cyclists spotted a wallaby in the woods next to the canal on Sunday morning.

“After our night shift at AGC in Mol-Gompel, I was driving home with a colleague when we spotted a wallaby along the canal,” says Sven Peiren from Leopoldsburg. “The wallaby ran into the forest, but we quickly jumped off our bikes to take a picture.”

It is not yet clear whether it is one of André Dammen’s animals that escaped at the end of March. André Dammen is the owner of several wallabies and various other animals, which he keeps on his domain Gompeldijk in Balen.

These are neglected animals that he has adopted, for which he works together with a shelter in Heusden-Zolder. “Our domain offers shelter to four types of neglected animals, but at home I still have ducks, geese, chickens and other small animals,” André Dammen said at the end of March. Then the fence of the animal enclosure was damaged, after which four wallabies ran away.

One of the animals has not been found since, but it is difficult to say from the photos whether it is one of his kangaroos.(sg)
