The playground and sports fields at Polderstad were in need of renovation. The Hoboken district based the new design on the wishes of current visitors.

The Hoboken district based its new design on the results of a survey among visitors to the current sports and play area. This mainly reflected the desire for more greenery, varied play equipment and a more extensive skating area. For example, new trees and flower fields will be provided on the new site and the current lawn will be transformed into a combination of a dog walking area, football fields, a basketball court, playground and skate park.

The playground is designed for children of different ages. There will be play equipment such as a balance course, playhouses with slides and swings. The skate park is also designed according to the wishes of the users and consists of a landscape with different levels. “We have taken the needs of the users into account optimally,” says district councilor of Sport Carine Leys (N-VA). “This gave the skaters the opportunity to indicate which equipment they wanted. By really listening to them, we hope to offer them a skating landscape that really meets their expectations.”

In addition, the pedestrian and cycle path will also be tackled. This will not only widen and change location, but will also be further away from the trees so that the tree roots no longer cause any nuisance. The contractor started the demolition work on Monday. The works on the cycle and pedestrian path will take approximately one month. During that period, a diversion will be provided along Fodderiestraat. No inconvenience to motorized traffic is expected.
