The chance that a World Cup will be organized in our country is increasing. A few months ago, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany announced that they wanted to jointly organize the Women’s World Cup in 2027. One of the other three candidates has now withdrawn his candidacy.

A major tournament in men’s football is not imminent in Belgium. Yet there is a chance that a world championship will soon take place in our country. It concerns the Women’s World Cup in 2027. Together with the Netherlands and Germany, Belgium has officially submitted a candidacy.

In addition to “BNG”, Brazil and USA & Mexico also announced that they wanted to organize the World Cup. But the latter have now withdrawn their candidacy. The chance of a major tournament in Belgium therefore increases enormously.

World Cup 2027

Together with the Netherlands and Germany, our country submitted its candidacy for the 2027 world championship a few months ago. In a general statement, the federations said they were “in line with what FIFA expects from a host country”. The countries also promise smooth transport connections between the various host cities.

If the three countries are allowed to organize the World Cup together, matches will be played in Belgium at the Planet Group Arena in Ghent, the Lotto Park in Anderlecht and the Cegeka Arena in Genk. A new stadium could also be built in Charleroi. In the Netherlands, the Kuip in Rotterdam and the Johan Cruijff Arena in Amsterdam are major contenders. Germany convinces with the stadiums of Borussia Dortmund and Schalke 04.

Opportunities greater

Until yesterday, the candidacy of Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany stood against two other candidacies. There’s only one left now. The United States and Mexico have announced that they will no longer participate. This is because the countries, together with Canada, are also organizing a men’s World Cup in 2026.

As a result, only Brazil now faces the European countries. The country has never organized a Women’s World Cup, while Germany did so once in 2011. Where the World Cup will ultimately be played will be announced on May 17 in Bangkok.
