The Water Festival marks the start of a new tourist (sailing) season. From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., the Steenkaai and Broekplein will be buzzing thanks to numerous activities that showcase Vilvoorde and its water-rich culture.

The Steenkaai turns into a charming vintage flea market and brunch spot provided by De Kruitfabriek. Historic ships along the quay are witnesses to the maritime heritage. The Brussels-Scheldt Sea Canal provides a backdrop for water skiing demonstrations, while the kayaking and rowing presentations highlight the art of water sports. For those who prefer to explore the water at a more leisurely pace, there are numerous boat trips on the program.

On Broekplein you can taste the local cuisine at the regional products market. Music lovers enjoy a performance by Senne & Van Keer and Radio Moetoen broadcasts live from the Water Festival. Children carry out exciting water investigations or let their imaginations run wild with make-up and glitter tattoos on the event ship Rösli. Anyone who would like to learn more about the history of shipping can visit the photo exhibition. Pica Pika offers delicious tapas, paella and fresh cocktails.

You can also participate in one of the guided cycling and walking tours for a unique view of the city. The eye-catcher this year is the open-air exhibition 20 years of KanaalPark. A temporary exhibition that puts the spotlight on one of the largest urban renewal projects in Flanders for a month.

The full program and the link to register for all free activities can be found at: www.vilvoorde.be/waterfeest

“After a successful edition last year, we are again focusing on a regional products market this year with finger-licking snacks and drinks from the region, with the necessary side entertainment. The weather gods will be kind to us, ideal to celebrate the start of the tourist season with a packed program on and around the water.” said councilor for sustainability, tourism, housing policy and digitalization Tine Paredis.
