One of the tourists who was seriously injured in an accident with a bus in Brussels on Sunday remains in a critical condition in hospital. A second victim is also still in hospital, but his life is no longer in danger.

The accident happened on Sunday afternoon on the Steenweg in Vilvoorde. The first elements of the investigation showed that the bus carrying 33 foreign tourists suffered from technical problems, after which the driver crashed into a tree. A total of 22 people were injured, three of them in serious condition.

Not under the influence

“The exact cause is not yet known,” says Yasmina Vanoverschelde of the Brussels public prosecutor’s office. “An expert was appointed to find out. The driver was tested after the accident and was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs.”
