THE HAGUE – To tackle the growing challenge of dementia care in Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, St. Maarten, Saba and St. Eustatius, ZonMw is launching a new call for subsidies. This focuses on improving the quality of life for people with dementia and their loved ones by optimizing chain care and training professionals.

ZonMw is an organization that stimulates health research and healthcare innovation in the Dutch Kingdom by financing projects and supporting collaboration between research, practice and policy.

This subsidy is part of the Dementia Research Program and is supported by the ZonMw Caribbean Health Research program and the Day Activities program for people living at home with dementia.

Dr. Steffen van Heijningen, a Curaçao scientist with Saban roots, has been appointed as local liaison for this subsidy program and is partly responsible for setting up this subsidy round. He is available for questions and offers advice on submitting applications on behalf of ZonMw.

Dementia

Dementia affects more and more people in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, comparable to the situation in the Netherlands. The impact of this disease on patients and their families is significant, making appropriate care and support essential. ZonMw makes subsidies available for initiatives that want to increase healthcare standards on these islands.

There are two types of grants available within this call. Subsidies of up to €100,000 for projects aimed at improving cooperation and quality within chain care and subsidies of up to €50,000 for providing specialized training to healthcare providers and professionals within the social domain who work in dementia care.

A total of €450,000 has been reserved for this subsidy round, with room for a maximum of three projects per subsidy type.

This call for subsidies is open to organizations and partnerships that are active in the care and support of people with dementia on the six Dutch Caribbean islands. Potential applicants include healthcare institutions, educational institutions, research centers and non-profit organizations.

The call will be published on the ZonMw website in May. Interested parties have until July 8, 2024, 2:00 PM (CEST), to submit their proposals.
