In healthcare, too little attention is paid to conditions that only occur in women, such as menopausal complaints, pelvic floor problems and endometriosis. There is also often a lack of knowledge about these conditions. And that costs society a lot of money, according to research by the NVOG.

In this podcast, Federation Chairman Piet-Hein Buiting talks with Pia Dijkstra, Minister of Health, Welfare and Sport, and gynecologist Astrid Vollebregt, initiator of the research, about what this means for women. ‘Almost every woman in the Netherlands, and there are approximately 8.8 million, suffers from one of these conditions, but it is still a taboo. People don’t talk about it and it therefore takes a long time for these women to come to the hospital.’

Minister Pia Dijkstra indicates that she has made women-specific disorders one of the spearheads of her ministry. The minister has also made millions available to conduct more research into these conditions. ‘It seems as if you, as a woman with these problems, are not taken seriously. And that really needs to change.’
