The security company G4S is looking for 75 additional security officers to work at Brussels Airport. To attract additional candidates, it promises a gross premium of 1,000 euros, the company announced on Wednesday.

About a thousand security officers work at the airport. They patrol the property, inspect luggage, vehicles, suppliers and so on. The extra security officers will mainly be deployed to check passengers’ hand luggage.

The additional employees must prepare G4S for the summer peak. “More passengers means that more security officers are also needed to ensure a smooth flow,” says Christophe Tack, Head of Operations – Guarding. “We now have officers from other posts assist at the busiest times, but we believe that additional forces are always welcome and available.”

Because security guard is a shortage profession, G4S expects the search to be a “challenge”. The premium should help to attract people – including security officers with experience – to Brussels Airport. The premium applies to every new agent who starts employment between April 24 and June 1 and stays for at least six months. G4S agents who can convince someone can also receive the bonus, G4S says.

The security company hopes for a lot of interest from women, partly because female passengers may only be checked by women. “We have to get rid of the stereotypical image that a security officer is a strong man who mainly needs physical strength. ‘Soft skills’ and problem-solving skills are also skills that provide great added value,” it says.
