WhatsApp experienced a malfunction on Wednesday evening. Reports came from all over the world about problems with the application, making it impossible to send or receive messages. The malfunction now appears to have been resolved.
The first problems were reported around 8 p.m. Tens of thousands of reports were made about problems with the app on Downdetector.com, while more than 100,000 users reported a malfunction on the website Allestoringen.nl. The reports came in from India, the United Kingdom and Brazil, among others. Around 8:30 PM the number of reports on both websites seemed to decrease.
It is not clear whether other platforms of the American company Meta, such as Facebook and Instagram, also experienced problems. Many reports also came in about Instagram. WhatsApp confirms the outage in a post on Nothing is yet known about the cause of the malfunction.
