The bodies of three surfers – two Australians and one American – who had been missing for a week have been found in Mexico. They each had a bullet in the head. The Mexican public prosecutor’s office announced this on Sunday.

One of the leads the investigators are following is that of an attempt gone wrong to steal the tourists’ pickup truck. The vehicle was found burned out not far from where the bodies were found. They were in a 15 meter deep well.

Australian brothers Jake (30) and Callum (33) Robinson and American Jack Carter (30) were last seen last weekend at a popular surf spot in the north of Baja California, a Mexican region bordering the United States. When the Australians did not show up at their previously booked Airbnb and the American remained absent from work, the search began.

Relatives of the three surfers are on site to identify the bodies.

In the days following the disappearance, local authorities arrested three people believed to be connected to the case. They were under the influence and one of them had the phone of one of the missing people in his pocket.
