The Pro League is not happy after Ilyes Bennane’s transfer soap was widely in the news. And that for a barely 13-year-old player.

Ilyes Bennane is considered by many to be one of the greatest talents in Europe. After much wrangling, he now moves from KRC Genk to RSC Anderlecht, while he also passed Eupen and Standard.

Such child transfers have become increasingly out of hand in recent years and the Pro League wants to put a stop to this. “The situation is getting worse and worse,” sporting director of the Pro League Dennis Henderickx told Het Nieuwsblad.

The interests of the child no longer matter, he notes. “The family situation, the situation at school, we all have to take that more into account.”

War

An action plan is being drawn up to avoid this in the future, but according to a player’s agent who testifies anonymously to the newspaper, not much will change.

“It is a war between clubs like Club Brugge, Standard, Genk and Anderlecht. They all participate and work according to the principle of an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth: you take one from me, and I will take one back.”

Players who are not yet 15 years old are normally not allowed to have an agent, but they are very creative with this and call it a ‘coach’. Because it’s not just the clubs that make the mistake, the child’s family and entourage also participate in the whole circus.
