Which parts of the constitution may be changed in the future?

The Belgian government faces a crucial task: officially recording the constitutional articles that are subject to revision. Only these specific articles can then be amended by the next parliament. A bit strange that it is strange that this decision is made by a majority that may no longer exist after the elections. Vivaldi therefore actually determines the framework for the next parliament to work on the constitution.

The constitution, what is that?

The Belgian Constitution forms the core of our legal system and determines fundamental rules, including the rights of citizens, the state structure and the distribution of power between government bodies. Opening up the constitution is crucial for state reforms. It is therefore remarkable that the previous government led by Charles Michel did not declare any important constitutional articles open to revision, unlike the current De Croo government.

Disagreement

The government now faces the challenge of selecting specific constitutional articles to revise. However, this selection causes dissension within the government. Article 195 in particular, which regulates the procedure for constitutional amendments, is causing discussion. This article allows the next parliament to determine for itself which articles should be amended, which constitutional experts criticize as a trick to circumvent the specific articles.
