Mustapha Baitas, government spokesman, emphasized on Thursday that no increase is planned for the time being. This statement comes in response to concerns among Moroccans, especially the most vulnerable, about the impact of such a measure on their purchasing power.

The opposition in parliament has also expressed concerns about the consequences of such an increase. The parliamentarians fear that this measure will put a heavy burden on the budgets of Moroccan families, especially those who already receive direct social support. To limit this risk, some propose giving every household two free gas bottles.

The issue of the price of butane has been a source of tension for months. Last October, the government announced a gradual price increase from 40 to 50 dirhams by 2026, by 10 dirhams per year. This decision, although not yet implemented, raises questions and fears among the population.

Aware of the social and economic implications of this issue, the government promises to communicate transparently with citizens. Mustapha Baitas assured that Moroccans will be informed in a timely manner of any decision regarding butane gas prices.

The question remains whether this measure, although postponed, will actually be implemented and in what form. The government knows that there is a balance to be struck between the need to rationalize subsidies and protect the purchasing power of households, especially the most vulnerable.
