Zeeman is expanding its second-hand Re-use offering to 2 new locations. After Merksem and Genk, it is now also Brussels and Berchem’s turn.

44% of Belgians bought second-hand products in 2023, an increase of almost 6% compared to 2022. To respond to this growing trend, Zeeman has decided to expand its second-hand offering, which it launched in the Netherlands and Belgium in 2021, under the name ‘Re-use’, can be expanded to two additional locations. The offer was already available in stores in Merksem and Genk, but Brussels and Berchem will also be added from May 3. For the sale of second-hand clothing, the chain collaborates with Het Goed, a social enterprise with various thrift stores and textile sorting centers in the Netherlands. “After the success in Genk and Merksem, we were determined to further explore the second-hand market,” says Arnoud van Vliet, CSR & quality manager at Zeeman. “Too much clothing is still thrown away and we want to do something about that. Our goal is to further expand our second-hand initiative.”

In addition to selling second-hand clothing, Zeeman also offers customers the opportunity to donate their used clothing in a collection box that they can find in all Zeeman stores. Het Goed then checks and sorts the collected clothing items, after which it makes them available in its stores. Zeeman also buys clothing from Het Goed to sell under the Re-use label.
