Minister of Health Frank Vandenbroucke (Vooruit) wants to cancel night flights at Brussels Airport

Federal Minister of Health Frank Vandenbroucke (Vooruit) is calling for a ban on night flights for Brussels Airport. A study by the Superior Health Council shows that they pose a higher health risk.

The noise caused by night flights not only causes irritation and sleeping problems for local residents. It also negatively impacts their mental well-being. This increases the risk of depression. In the long term, noise pollution increases the risk of cardiovascular disease and slows down the learning process in children. In addition, the air pollution caused by the flights also plays a role. The ultrafine dust leads to, among other things, reduced lung functions and a disturbed heart rhythm.

The study into the impact of night flights on the health of local residents was commissioned by Frank Vandenbroucke (Vooruit). The federal Minister of Health therefore wants to ban night flights in order to guarantee the night’s sleep of local residents.
