The moving story of Ferdos and Marlou, who have been unwanted childless for years, touched him so much that it was just too much for him. “Everyone just assumes that it will happen automatically and succeed and it is such a deep-rooted wish for these two young people.”
Ferdos and Marlou met each other more than twelve years ago in a café in Groningen. They fell madly in love, tied the knot and bought a starter home. The help of the team at Buy without looking was more than welcome, because the two have a strong desire to have children and have now moved out of their home. But while having children is an ordinary thing for many people, this turned out not to be the case for Ferdos and Marlou. The couple told presenter Martijn Krabbé that they have been working for three and a half years now, but so far without success. “We are now in an ICSI process, so that is tough,” Marlou said with tears in her eyes.

Despite all the sadness, the couple still wanted desperately to find a single-family home. Bob Sikkes wondered why they had not succeeded earlier. According to Ferdos, there were several reasons for this, but the fertility process had the greatest impact, he told Bob and real estate agent Alex van Keulen. Tears welled up again in Marlou. “Our lives have actually been at a standstill for three and a half years,” she sobbed. That revelation affected Alex, who together with his wife has been taking care of foster children in their family for years, so much that he himself became emotional and was at a loss for words. “It’s something you don’t think about if you want to have children. Everyone just assumes that it will happen automatically and succeed and it is such a deep-rooted wish for these two young people. I sincerely hope it will work out for them. But it does affect me.”

Mixed feelings
Alex then started his search with good courage. With a budget of 470,000 euros, he had to look for a single-family home with three bedrooms and a spacious garden in Groningen or Haren. He soon discovered that finding a suitable home in Groningen was anything but easy. Alex became even more enthusiastic when he found a house in Haren that met all the wishes of Ferdos and Marlou. A small problem: the couple had stated that they would prefer to live in Groningen. Still, Alex decided to take the plunge and buy the house in Haren.
A lot was done to transform Ferdos and Marlou’s brand new home into their own little palace. Because as Alex had predicted, the two were indeed a bit confused when they were allowed to view the house for the first time. Ferdos spoke of ‘mixed feelings’ and mainly hoped that they would eventually fall in love with their new place.
After many months of waiting, Ferdos and Marlou were eager to see how their home had undergone a metamorphosis on the day of the unveiling. When they entered they couldn’t believe their eyes. ,,Not normal. I was so nervous, but it really wasn’t necessary,” Marlou shouted. “I really like everything. Really very happy with it.”
