Although he is still recovering after breaking his hip last year, he performs about a hundred times a year. “My hip had an accident, but my voice did not. It never thinks ‘I wish I had stayed at home’ during performances and never says no to requests.” Except that one time, when he was asked to perform in a sex club.

Lee is always treated well, even in the party tents or at the student associations. “I have been joining the corps in Utrecht for forty years. I sometimes hear of artists pouring a hundred liters of beer over themselves in ten seconds, but that has never happened to me.”

No international career

Dream big, that has been his motto in life all these years. Yet he never pursued an international career. “I once had a conversation with people who wanted to bring me to Las Vegas, but I quickly noticed that they didn’t have my common thread. (…) I have never canceled gigs for gigs I could get in the abroad. My record company wanted me to break through in Germany and I had to do channel tours. I just wanted to be home every day.”
