For a while it seemed that Samsung was testing the Galaxy Z Flip 6 with older hardware. Nothing turns out to be further from the truth, as we learn after digging through the available information.

Galaxy Z Flip 6 not with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2

Last week it seemed so clear: Samsung is testing the Galaxy Z Flip 6 with Qualcomm’s new high-end processor – the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 – and the pieces of the puzzle are falling into place. A new mention of the device seemed to cause equally great confusion.

A Galaxy Z Flip 6 appeared again in the Geekbench database – again an American model, even, with model number SM-F741U. This time, however, the device runs on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor. Does this mean that the Z Flip 6 will soon be on the shelves with hardware from an older generation?

After some digging, the answer to this question is clear: no. The new entry turns out to be a genuine fake. We don’t see that often anymore in recent years, but this time it is really the case.

Anyone who delves deeper into the Geekbench data will learn more about the firmware versions used of both tested devices. The first entry – the one with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 – ran its test rounds with firmware version F741USQU0AXDE. That is indeed a firmware of the American Z Flip 6.

The second, new entry ran the Geekbench test on firmware version SCG20KDU1BXCH. This is the firmware of the Samsung SCG20 – the Japanese version of the Galaxy S23 Ultra. That device indeed runs on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, and in this case it is simply disguised with incorrect identifying information.

So..?

The mention of the Galaxy Z Flip 6 with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is therefore simply a fake. The Geekbench test of the Z Flip 6 with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor is real. And let’s be honest: that also fits the price of the Z Flip phones much better.

It’s been a long time since a real fake Geekbench listing of an upcoming Samsung phone surfaced. You would almost forget that the phenomenon still exists in 2024.
