Club Brugge starts today with Simon Mignolet in goal against Antwerp. That is striking, because most observers thought that Nordin Jackers would be rewarded for his performance in recent weeks.
But Jackers isn’t even on the bench. It’s his turn to look on injured. It is a minor injury, but in any case it is very inconvenient now that the 26-year-old goalkeeper finally got his chance.
Well, it was not the intention to leave Mignolet aside until the end of the play-offs anyway. The former international’s experience is invaluable at this stage of the competition.
However, Johan Boskamp had a clear opinion about the goalkeeper debate at Club Brugge. Mignolet missed five weeks due to a hamstring injury. He missed eight matches in which Jackers did well.
“Just give me Jackers,” Boskamp said yesterday HBvL. “You can’t say that Club is doing badly since that little guy is in goal, right? I see no reason for Hayen to suddenly change now and choose Mignolet.”
However, circumstances have decided otherwise.
