Fabio Jakobsen has not yet had a very successful Giro d’Italia. The Dutchman did not appear in the second sprint stage on Tuesday, but still enjoys the confidence of the team management of DSM-firmenich PostNL. This became apparent on the way to the finishing point Andora.

Jakobsen had to drop out on the only categorized climb of the day, the Colle delle Melogno (8.9 km at 4%). The fast man was then not left to his fate. His adjutants Julius van den Berg and Gijs Leemreize decided to take him in tow towards the top and eventually managed to guide the sprinter back to the peloton.

This certainly did not escape Jakobsen’s attention – who ultimately crossed the line in 22nd place in Andora. “I am very happy with my great teammates, who got me through,” he said via Instagram. I was a little closer today (Tuesday, ed.) and that will only improve. Wednesday looks like another chance for a sprint!”

Jakobsen ‘forgets’ important servant
Jakobsen was brought back in the fourth stage by Van den Berg and Leemreize, but also received unintentional help from Ryan Mullen along the way. The Irish racing driver from BORA-hansgrohe responded wittily to Jakobsen’s post. “Excuse me, where’s my shout-out?”
