After weeks of speculation, Besnik Hasi announced last weekend that he would be saying goodbye to KV Mechelen after the season, where the successful coach managed to put himself back on the map. In the meantime, more and more details are becoming known about the reason for the break.

Hasi guided Malinwa from the relegation zone to the brink of the Champions’ Play-Offs. A great achievement that will of course not go unnoticed elsewhere. For example, the former Anderlecht champion was mainly mentioned as a candidate successor to Hein Vanhaezebrouck at AA Gent.

Hasi sets the bar too high

Hasi himself maintains that there has not yet been any contact with potential future employers. According to him, he simply did not reach an agreement with KV Mechelen. For the rest, the 52-year-old Kosovar himself did not want to clarify on which points exactly the talks broke down.

Gazette of Antwerp now comes up with a little more information. According to the newspaper, the Mechelen board could not meet both the financial and sporting demands of Hasi and his entourage. Since he wanted to remain in post, the trainer was nevertheless prepared to compromise.

No cents in Mechelen

Particularly with regard to his salary conditions, Hasi would have settled for a similar salary as his colleagues at, say, STVV or OHL. However, even that counter-proposal immediately turned out to be impossible for Malinwa, who was also unable to meet his sporting expectations and ambitions.

If only because of his sense of honor and pride, character traits that reportedly occasionally cause resentment Behind the Barracks, Hasi decided to definitively pull the plug on the negotiations. The lack of financial strength in particular played a decisive role in this.
