Antwerp FC was particularly successful last season and also reaped the benefits in the transfer market. A number of strongholds were sold for substantial sums. And one of them now seems to provide a significant bonus.

Thanks to the resources made available by President Paul Gheysens, sporting boss Marc Overmars managed to mold a selection that proved capable of competing for prizes. For example, RAFC won the national title and the cup last season. But of course a lot was spent to form that champion core.

However, a large part of that expenditure was labeled as investments. Several players were attracted with the intention of later reselling them at a significant added value. Something that was also the case in the past summer mercato.

Pacho conquers Bundesliga

For example, Gaston Avila was sold to Ajax for around 12 million euros, although the Amsterdammers already seem to regret this. Willian Pacho was in turn sold to Eintracht Frankfurt for around 16 million euros. And that was a successful transfer.

After all, the Ecuadorian international quickly became a permanent stronghold of the German sub-topper. The 22-year-old defender is doing so well there that he can leave after just one season. Several top European clubs would pull on his sleeve.

Millions for Antwerp

However, according to French transfer watcher Santi Aouna, Liverpool FC is especially concrete. The Reds are said to have even held initial discussions with the parties involved. Frankfurt would want the jackpot for its defensive strongman. The German club would count on no less than 65 million euros.

People at the Bosuil will be happy to hear that. In the negotiations with Frankfurt, a significant percentage of the resale price was also imposed. If Pacho makes a top transfer later, RAFC will gain a lot of money.
