After two heavy defeats against Club Brugge, Racing Genk has now also lost heavily against Cercle Brugge. Coach Wouter Vrancken was disappointed again.

Racing Genk lost 4-0 and 3-0 against Club Brugge and was thus knocked out of the title race. They were able to secure fourth place against Cercle Brugge, but they suffered another heavy defeat and still have to work hard.

Genk coach Wouter Vrancken had to say the same thing again. “I am disappointed again, very disappointed. We have been harping on the intensity of Cercle Brugge all week and how we had to put our foot next to it.”

“That was really necessary to achieve a good result here. There must always be a base of intensity, but that wasn’t there today. It’s mainly between the ears and it’s difficult to say why.”

Vrancken reprimands Genk players

The defensive stability at Racing Genk seems to be completely gone. In the first four games of the play-offs, they only conceded two goals, and in the last three games Racing Genk had already conceded eleven goals.

“Those many goals conceded are mainly the result of individual mistakes, because three of four goals should not have been scored today,” Vrancken said. He gave his players a sermon after the whistle.

“I said that you can lose if things go badly. That is human. But this has nothing to do with your feet or good football, but with showing willpower. That was our strength in the regular season.”
