The leaker claims that the story will take place in India and that the gaming world will be hit by a ‘catastrophic event’. This would suddenly expose ancient ruins and artifacts that Lara Croft must find as quickly as possible. This way she should be able to outrun the enemies in the game.

The next Tomb Raider game will be published by Amazon Games. Developer Crystal Dynamics, together with Amazon Games, issued a press release in December 2022 indicating that the next Tomb Raider will be “the largest and most comprehensive game” in the franchise. The game is also said to feature puzzles and “a wide variety of enemies” and is being created in Unreal Engine 5. The game’s development was reportedly still in its early stages as of late 2022. Neither Crystal Dynamics nor Amazon Games have announced a release date at the time of writing.

The previous Tomb Raider games were published by Square Enix. The publisher acquired Eidos Interactive, which owned Crystal Dynamics, in 2009. Crystal Dynamics, Eidos-Montréal and Square Enix Montréal were sold to Embracer Group in 2022. The Swedish company then also took over the studios’ intellectual properties.
