Club Brugge also plays against Genk without strongmen Simon Mignolet and Andreas Skov Olsen. There was a commotion around the latter when he suddenly flew from Greece to Copenhagen. But according to coach Nicky Hayen, this happened by consensus. “We are going to see him play this season,” says Hayen.

The story is now known. Skov Olsen, who has been struggling with a groin injury, flew with the group to Thessaloniki last week, but suddenly left Greece for his home base of Copenhagen. There he wanted a second opinion about his situation. “Skov returns from Denmark on Friday. Then we will continue his rehabilitation here,” said coach Nicky Hayen. “That decision was made in consultation with the medical staff and management of Club Brugge.”

No Nielsen and Mignolet either

According to Hayen, it is not correct that Skov left after a disagreement with the club doctors. “That’s not right at all,” says Hayen. “Our medical staff works excellently, and these experts have connections at home and abroad. It was better for Skov to continue his rehabilitation in this way.” In the meantime, we are halfway through the play-offs on Wednesday. “Will we see him again this season? Just be sure of that,” says Hayen.

In the meantime, it became clear that Nordin Jackers will be in goal again on Wednesday against his former team Genk. “Simon Mignolet is still not fit,” Hayen explains. “That Nordin is doing fantastic and I have to make a choice later? Those are luxury problems. I’d rather have it that way than not have enough options. This means that everyone is performing at top level.” Genk also comes too early for Casper Nielsen: he is aiming for Sunday’s move to Limburg.
