There was nothing to do about Tadej Pogacar in Liège-Bastogne-Liège. Quinten Hermans reveals how he experienced it all.

Tadej Pogacar’s attack on La Redoute was written in the stars for Liège-Bastogne-Liège. The Slovenian eventually attacked there too and no one could follow Pogacar uphill.

Richard Carapaz tried, but blew himself up. Mattias Skjelmose stated afterwards that wanting to follow Pogacar cost him the rest of his match. They finished 26th and 28th respectively in Liège.

“The most realistic chance of winning the race is also not to follow Pogacar and hope that a good chase will start. Following Pogacar at that moment is suicide,” says Quinten Hermans at False Plat.

Pogacar impressive on La Redoute

“He rode almost the fastest time ever at La Redoute after 215 kilometers and four degrees on average. There was also a headwind. And there had already been a lot of racing. He simply has the most talent and certainly in that peloton on that course.”

“I already heard it on the Rosier. Almeida drove up next to Pogacar and he asked him how it went. Pogacar said ‘I’m okay, just follow the plan, João.’ Then you know enough, right? It was quite impressive.”
