Brussels

The Handicap.brussels website was launched on Thursday. The online platform offers a comprehensive range of information for people with disabilities in Brussels, giving them access to essential data from all competent authorities and associations. It is the result of close collaboration between the Phare service of the French Community Commission (Cocof) and Iriscare.

People with disabilities in Brussels face a complex landscape of public authorities and private organizations, having to turn to different entities to obtain a comprehensive support package tailored to their specific needs (the FPS Social Security, the PHARE service, Iriscare , Actiris, the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, the Brussels Region, the municipality, various secondary institutions such as Bruxelles Formation, Brussels Housing, etc.).

Without taking into account the private institutions that play an active role in providing assistance to people with disabilities: the health insurance funds, the hundreds of associations recognized and subsidized by various governments…

Twelve themes

The site covers twelve important themes (Information and recognition, Financial compensation, Travel, Health, School and education, Work, Housing, Self-reliance, Day care, Leisure, EVRAS, Help for relatives, Rights and justice).

“This new portal is tangible evidence of our efforts to strengthen inter-agency collaboration. Our ultimate goal is to create a better organized and friendlier system so that we can respond more effectively to the needs of Brussels residents. In the complex landscape that people with disabilities and their families navigate, the arrival of Handicap.brussels was invaluable,” says Prime Minister Rudi Vervoort, who is responsible for assistance to people with disabilities in the Cocof.
