In the first quarter of this year, Carrefour saw its turnover in Belgium decline by 0.2%. The retailer sees this as confirmation of its commercial strategy and refers to the exceptional situation of last year to explain the decline in March.

Carrefour presents solid quarterly figures in our country. There is a slight decline in turnover of 0.2%, but the figure is still 9.7% higher than two years ago. The retailer says that the increased volumes in January and February confirm the good commercial dynamics, with an increase of 4.3%. In March there was a decline of 7.6%. Carrefour refers to the social unrest that started at Delhaize following the announcement of the privatization of its own stores.

At group level, sales increased by 13.5%, mainly due to performance in Latin America, where sales increased by 48%. In Europe, the group shows broadly the same evolution as in Belgium: -0.2%. It refers to lower food inflation, investments and weak volume growth. The largest European decline was in Poland (-4.2%), where Carrefour says it is in a very competitive environment. The French retail group saw that the share of its own brands in turnover increased from 35% to 37%. The aim is to increase this to 40% by 2026. Carrefour is also making progress online, with a turnover growth of 33%.
