In the former Peace Court in Berchem, where the newlyweds recently also tied the knot, the district, together with the storytellers of Antwerp Ghostwalk, organizes walks that bring the history of the building back to life.
“The stately building of the former peace court of Berchem will now form the backdrop for Berchem weddings and other ceremonies,” says the Berchem district. “The fact that we can get married in the beautiful salon today is actually thanks to a marriage… in 1893. A chic home was built for the young couple, completely in the spirit of the Belle Epoque. It was not a hotel, but a city palace that had different functions over time.”
During the walk, the storytellers of Antwerp Ghostwalk will look for original elements in the interior and the garden. You will discover the many stories behind the historic murals, the enormous stairwell, the colorful collection of fireplaces, the remarkable ceiling,… “The personal stories of the family, but also of the justice of the peace who worked here for more than thirty years, catapult you back in time and thus pay tribute to this special building.”

The tours are an initiative of the Berchem district and are carried out by Antwerp Ghostwalk. They are offered free of charge to residents of Berchem. You can reserve a maximum of six tickets. The next tour will take place on Saturday, May 11 at 2 p.m.
